We've just started getting all of our toner from a pretty cool WA company - Magnum Print Solutions www.magnumlaser.com. They have a facility in Seattle that recycles toner on site - no middle man, and no shipping back and forth between the US and Asia. I must admit, I've never looked too closely at how toner is "recycled" until I found out about these folks - it's one of those things that people probably rarely think about but I would propose that it is one of the most un-environmental products in our stores becuause of their carbon footprint. In celebration of October, Co-op Month, please consider having your co-op participate in Howard Bowers Day. Funds raised on this day for the Bowers Fund are used to help new food co-ops and groups forming food co-ops get the training and education that are vital to opening and success! Some of the co-ops that have benefitted from a Howard Bowers Day grant are New Orleans, South Philly, Monadnock, Fairbanks, Friendly City, Stone's Throw, and Company Shops. To participate, pick a day in October and donate 3% of proceeds to the Bowers Fund or make a flat donatio Read more »

I am posting this on behalf of our Store Ops Manager Kiersten. She writes:
We are a co-op of about 25 employees about half of which are part-time and do apx 2.5 million in annual sales. We have been very liberal with allowing people to take time off—in excess of their paid vacation, especially the part-timers. The Purple Porch Co-op in South Bend, Indiana has started a Kickstarter project as a piece of our larger startup fundraising (http://kck.st/1ehxFyQ). I hope that I can get some of you to share the link with sympathetic Co-op folks and we can reach our goal. With your help, we could really surpass our goal with a nationwide reach.
Every dollar will count - I don't have tell fellow Cooperators that. Again, the link is: http://kck.st/1ehxFyQ

Our board recently voted to change our current discount system, from 5% for all owners, to 10% off one day per month of the owner's choosing (plus special sales, etc). Has anyone gone through this kind of change before and have advice for a smooth transition?

Hi folks. We're starting to look at expanding our in-house juicing. At the moment, we have a unit (a Jummo, from Spain) that produces juice from Valencia oranges. We'd like to be able to do non-citrus fruits, and probably some vegetables as well.
Is there a model or brand you'd recommend?
