Cooperatives essential to his family farm livelihood
Wayne was reared on a large family ranching/farming operation in north central South Dakota. He jokes that he spent the first 20 years of his life on the back of a horse and a tractor. His family grew all of their own food, because they had to. The closest loaf of bread was 35 miles away, and his common roots required his family to be self-sufficient. His experience in animal husbandry spans the range from birthing to butchering.
Cooperatives were an integral part of his farming community and provided his family the organizational structure to the secure farming essentials. His parents instilled a sense of giving back in Wayne by serving as elected officers in cooperatives, church, school, farm organizations, and county government.
Wayne has carried on the family tradition of volunteerism with local non-profit organizations such as the Sebastopol Center for The Arts, Western Sonoma County Historical Society, Sebastopol Entrepreneurs Project, Sebastopol Community Cultural Center, and Sebastopol Area Senior Center.
Wayne has demonstrated success as a team builder and trainer, and has particular strength in event development and project management, budgeting, planning, and cost control. He has a proven record in business planning and development, marketing and advertising strategies, operational efficiency, quality improvement, and customer care.
