CGIN provides an opportunity for cooperators to interact in an informal setting, regardless of their affiliation. I especially like the way the specialized list-serves have evolved to meet specific needs, while still maintaining a commitment to the open list serve for all. Both types of list serve provide a jumping in point for interested people to get more involved in food coops and their relevant issues. Expanding this idea may further a vision of creating a “CCMA every day” experience for those not yet involved.
I also believe there is lots of opportunity to improve an already strong offering of information through the CGIN resource library, and to create new, innovative ways to share information with each other. There are competing forums for sharing this information, but as I see it, CGIN was first and still the best.
Active member involvement is important for any cooperative, and serving as a director is a good way to be involved. After one three-year term, I feel I have been able to contribute regularly and productively to our planning work. The time commitment is low, but the value is high. By serving another term, I could build on my past experience and readiness to serve, and hopefully help maintain continuity for the benefit of new board members we may gain, and of the organization as a whole.
