I've been Membership Director of the Davis Food Co-op since 1989. In that time, the Co-op has added over 8,000 shareholders and $2 million in share investments. I've oriented hundreds of new members, answered hundreds of shopper suggestions, placed and coached many dozens of volunteers, and supervised the issuance of the Co-op’s first scanning member cards and patronage refund checks.
I use CGN a lot, whether it’s asking peers a question in the Marketing & Membership Group, unearthing an aid to our store in a new post to the Library, or feeling the pulse of the movement on the home page. When something unfamiliar or that I haven’t experienced before comes up, that’s when I remember how this organization has helped our co-op’s staff, Directors and (ultimately) our members.
CGN continues as an independent trade group (incorporated as CGIN), in cooperation with the other national and international organizations serving food co-ops. I’ve tried to keep the diverse needs of our members in mind during all our planning and deliberations. The same focus on returning value to members that I use in my day job has guided me in my three terms as a CGN Director. I’ve had the pleasure of being CGN’s Secretary and Treasurer, and serving on past Nominating and Annual Meeting planning Committees.
I'm an avid Irish and Scottish dancer, performing as part of the group Siamsa le Cheile, and have a Masters of Science in Community Development from UC Davis
