CGN Update: November 4, 2013

Greetings CGNation.

First of all, I'd like to welcome former Food Co-op Initiative organizer, Jake Schlacter, to CGN's team. He will be our primary website programmer for awhile and he's already been able to attend to a few glitches.

Position Title:

This resides in your User Profile. This is your "signature" throughout the site for Groups and Group Discussion views. Please include name of the co-op and position. ex. Citizen Co-op, Marketing Manager. Some have suggested you include your city, too. That's up to you; it's your profile.

Group Discussions — email notifications:

We've made a few cosmetic changes in how these look in both immediate and digest modes. Also, the poster's "signature" (profile position title) is now displaying correctly in subject line and body of email notification.

With these improvements to the Discussions, we'd really like to transfer away from the email list-serves by Halloween. Scary!

Dashboard view of Recent Activity In My Groups view.

We added a few lines to the display so you could see more context to vet your interest. As with all good posts, this should encourage you to make the first few lines compelling!

URL options

Even though we think there is some value to practicing typing "cooperative" you can now reach our site by going to www.GROCER.coop, or the even quicker, www.CGN.coop  (capitals not necessary).

Search engine

We have moved the site to a new host that allows for a more powerful, Google-like search engine that is more forgiving about spelling. For example, you can type in, "Whatsville Vido" and it will ask you if you meant "Wheatsville video". This is the site-wide search found on each page. We will be adding the type of resource to the search results very soon.

Please comment here, or use the CGN Website Feedback form to let us know what else you'd like to see, or are having problems with, or really like.

Thank you for your patience during all of this transition. The amazing thing is there are nearly 1,800 of you with enrolled. That's four times more than usually attend a CCMA conference. Hope you have fun getting to know one another and sharing!

In cooperation,

Dan Nordley

CGN executive director
