The Howard Bowers Fund for Consumer Cooperatives was established by the Hyde Park Consumer Society in memory of its long-time General Manager, Howard Bowers.
The Fund’s purposes are to promote and develop consumer-owned food cooperatives and consumer cooperative education, to encourage and train people to pursue careers in the management of consumer-owned food cooperatives, and to provide education programs for staff, board, and managers of consumer cooperatives.
The Bowers Fund is the only funding source dedicated to the growth and development of consumer cooperatives and their staff. It is managed by the Cooperative Development Foundation http://www.cdf.coop/bowers-fund.
Fundraising for the Bowers Fund primarily takes place at the annual Consumers Cooperative Management Association (CCMA) conference. For more background, see a 2012 article on "The Howard Bowers Fund and CCMA," linked below under Related Content.
