Position Title          Produce/Grocery Staff

Salary/Benefits      $10.75 per hour; paid vacation and sick days; shopping discount; health benefits         Hours                     30-40 hours per week

Job Summary           Mariposa Grocery and Produce staff ensures that the community has access to fresh fruits and vegetables and, quality products and is an active member of the Staff Collective.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

o    Exceptional interpersonal skills including customer service, conflict resolution, creative problem solving, crisis prevention and de-escalation, critical thinking, and decision making

o    Receiving and stocking orders of all sizes

o    Maintaining clean, attractive, well-stocked and rotated displays throughout the departments

o    Providing prompt and courteous assistance to members and shoppers- fielding questions about the coop and products, assisting with shopping needs, etc.

o    Work within a team of other Produce/Grocery staff (supporting each other around covering shifts, taking breaks and rotating responsibilities)

o    Supervision and support of volunteer working members on assorted department tasks

Qualifications

o    Prior experience in a retail produce and/or grocery department required

o    Familiarity with natural foods, including produce and grocery items, relevant terms and classifications

o    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to give clear instructions

o    Customer service oriented, prior experience with customer assistance and communication

o    Must be able to fulfill the physical requirements of the job –standing for up to 8 hours, lifting 50-60 lbs., working in cold and wet environments

Additional Skills

o    Prior training on merchandising and display

o    Supervision of volunteers and/or training others

o    Knowledge of agriculture, growing methods (organic, IPM, etc),  local foods and suppliers

o    Knowledge of Cooperative Grocery principles and experience working in a cooperative environment

o    Committed to an anti-oppression/food justice framework

This position reports to the Produce and Grocery Coordinators and, the Staff Collective.
