EVER’MAN NATURAL FOODS
Purpose: To oversee selection, pricing and promotion of grocery items, appliances, plants, books and general merchandise to meet objectives for sales, margin, inventory turns, labor costs and customer service.
Status: Reports to Store Manager
Supervises Grocery Staff: Assistant Grocery Manager, Receiver and Stockers
Pay Level V Non-Exempt Hourly
I. Department Management
A. Work with Store Manager to set long and short term goals for department sales, margin, profit, and labor expense.
B. Regularly report to Store Manager and department team members on the performance of the department.
A. Supervise buyers in purchasing products to meet customer, seasonal, and holiday demand.
B. Oversee as they work to achieve optimal inventory turnover.
C. Plan and merchandise grocery department purposefully and attractively.
D. Monitor incoming deliveries to ensure products are high quality and counts are accurate.
E. Instruct and oversee grocery crew to ensure products are merchandised and rotated properly and carry a current date.
F. Conduct product and price checks of comparable grocery and natural food stores.
G. Attend regional or national trade shows or conferences and read trade journals to stay abreast of current industry trends.
3. PERSONNEL Management – for grocery department
A. Make hiring recommendations of qualified applicants following established policy to Store Manager.
B. Orient and train all grocery employees to perform the duties and responsibilities of the department professionally. Train, coach and counsel them to improve performance.
C. Ensure on-the-job training.
D. Provide frequent feedback to employees on their performance at least twice a year.
E. Conduct performance evaluations.
F. Take disciplinary action as needed following established policy.
G. Schedule working hours, vacations, and holidays for department staff.
H. Cross-train employees from other departments as required.
4. DEPARTMENT MAINTENANCE
A. Check and Maintain safety standards.
B. Correct unsafe areas and practices.
C. Ensure cleanliness of the department.
D. Participate in Periodic Physical Inventory Counts.
5. CUSOMER SERVICE
A. Assist customers with questions needs and requests.
B. Resolve customer complaints as needed.
C. Ensure grocery employees assist customers thoroughly, in a courteous, helpful manner.
6. GENERAL MANAGEMENT
A. Attend Management Team and all staff meetings.
B. Perform Manager on Duty shifts as assigned.
C. Review financial reports for department performance and take corrective action as needed.
D. Perform other tasks assigned by Store Manager.
1. Supervisory experience: hiring, training, evaluating, directing.
2. Ability to read financial statements, (or at least firm grasp of margin and pricing).
3. Organized and consistently follows through on commitments.
4. Knowledge of current trends in natural foods industry.
5. Communications skills--clear directions, good listener.
6. Regular, predictable attendance.
7. Available to work any day including nights and weekends
8. Must have at least 3 years of management experience in Grocery Store Operations.
