We’re looking for a Produce Team Leader to take our growing local food co-op to the next level.  Friendly City Food Co-op in Harrisonburg, VA (located in beautiful Shenandoah Valley) needs a dynamic individual to network with area farmers and source the best produce, plants, and flowers at reasonable costs for our member-owners.  Our standards are high, so attention to detail and a gentle touch are essential.  Attractive display building with fresh product lets our shoppers know how important quality is to our co-op.

Friendly and knowledgeable customer service is what sets us apart from other grocers, and our Produce department makes the first impression as customers enter our store, so a ready smile and cheerful greeting while you work are essential.

We buy direct from many local farms throughout the year, and the Shenandoah Valley Produce Auction every week during the season.  Negotiating mutually agreeable pricing is a key part of this position.  Balancing margins with attractive pricing is both a science and an art form, and we expect this individual to be a master.  Our goal is to become the central hub for local food in the Shenandoah Valley.

With an expansion in our near future, and rapid growth possibilities, the person we seek should be flexible and able to juggle multiple roles and functions. Our team is currently small and everyone helps out in other areas. Our bookkeeper also serves as our cheese monger. The Front End Team leader buys and stocks bulk foods. The General Manager orders local chocolates. So it is rare that any two days are the same.
