National Co+op Grocers (NCG) is a member-owned business service cooperative providing a variety of services to retail food co-ops in 38 states. NCG helps unify food co-ops in order to optimize operational and marketing resources, strengthen purchasing power, and offer more value to food co-op shoppers everywhere.

We are seeking an energetic and experienced individual with a passion for designing, developing, and implementing dynamic produce programs. This position will assist NCG Co-ops through the development and implementation of preferred practices, product training, promotional execution and financial guidance for our member co-ops throughout the United States as well as some internal events.

This is an ideal position for Produce experts interested in having a direct impact on the success of food co-ops, their suppliers, and their communities.  This position will be based in NCG’s St. Paul, MN office, and requires up to 30% business travel.  Relocation assistance is available for this opportunity!

Primary Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Purchasing and Marketing departments, develop, support, and deliver improved cost of goods and effective promotional programs
  • Identify and develop NCG preferred practices, resources, and tools for produce departments
  • Work with regional development team managers to provide direction and guidance to produce retail specialists
  • Monitor legal, food safety, advocacy, consumer trends and common department issues
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with trade and vendor communities in coordination with NCG purchasing staff
  • Work with Talent Development and regional Development Teams to deliver department level training resources

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of retail food operations, including basic financial analysis
  • Familiarity with natural and organic foods and industry trends
  • Practical understanding of purchasing/negotiating concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Bachelor's degree or above in relevant field preferred
  • Minimum of five years of experience providing multi-unit, produce department support
