Your Scrip Program, how does it work?
This is Lis Harvey from the Davis Food Co-op. (I work with Doug Walter and Julie Cross, among many other fabulous folks.) We're looking to update our ancient (paper) "scrip" program to save our poor cashiers and community from a fate worse than traveler's checks. I would love to hear from anyone who has a current scrip program. What works for your Co-op, and what do you wish was different? We're poised to adopt either an in-house gift card system that is reloadable at the registers, but I want to make sure we're looking at all possibilities before we commit. I've got a proposal from eScrip (outside vendor) that seems feasible if more expensive, and I wonder if there are other solutions we haven't considered?
There is also a new kid on the block, a company called "Marqeta," whose card technology supports the new Jamba Juice "sip and support" program that replaced their old school donation system last August. (http://marqeta.com) Marqeta provides the platform for the new Facebook giftcards, and they've contracted with Triple A to revamp those AAA club cards that some of us still carry around in our wallets and rarely ever brandish... I'm not exactly sure yet how well they would work for our Co-op, but there are many independent grocers in their Merchant roster already. If anyone else has heard of these guys, I'd love to know your thoughts.
Thanks, in advance, for any insight. I'd also greatly appreciate having any relevant previous discussions on this topic pointed out to me, as I'm new to this format!
