We are a member owned and operated grocery store established in 1973 with 7 families getting together to buy a forty pound block of McCadam Cheese. Since then we’ve grown to a retail store that serves Potsdam and its surrounding communities. Although membership has its privileges, it is not necessary to shop at the co-op.
Our mission is to proved healthy, wholesome food at the lowest possible price to our co-op communities. The first thing you’ll notice when you walk into the Co-op is the smell of fresh, warm bread. For almost 3 years now, we’ve been offering hearth-baked bread from our own Carriage House Bakery. The bakery currently makes over 14 different kinds of breads, multi-grain, batard, spelt and baguette just to name a few. The bakery also makes cinnamon buns, pesto and cheese rolls, potato curry pockets and focaccia. At the bakery they’re always trying out new recipes so stopping in on a regular basis will ensure that you get to try all the new bakery items that are coming out.
As you look around you’ll see vitamins, snacks, international foods, chocolates, bulk items, spices, fresh organic vegetables, dairy, cheeses, frozen foods…it’s just food everywhere!
When you look at the items on the shelves or in the coolers you’ll notice most foods and household items have a choice of organic or non-organic. We purchase locally grown or produced food and items whenever possible. General Manger Scott Miller states, “The local growers are already a part of our co-op community and it’s our way of contributing to the local economy.” An advantage of buying local, you’ll get to taste the natural goodness the North Country earth has to offer!
Everyone at the Potsdam Food Co-op and the Carriage House Bakery invite you to stop in and see all the we have to offer. Occasionally, we schedule special events about food, nutrition or general health.
