Central Co-op

We are a member-owned natural foods co-operative serving Seattle's Capitol Hill and surrounding neighborhoods. Our Co-op offers a complete selection of natural foods, a wide selection of vitamins, herbs, and body care products, and deli delights fresh from our kitchen. We are committed to providing organic products when available and have an emphasis on quality and broad selection of products throughout the store. Central Co-op is very much a community based natural foods cooperative. Our product selection is driven by not only what sells but by our owner's requests whenever possible. This receptiveness and responsiveness to owner needs is one of our strengths and distinguishes our Co-op from traditional supermarkets. Roots: Our Co-op grew in "fertile soil" tilled by an earlier effort, Capitol Hill Co-op. Central Co-op opened in October of 1978 in the old Capitol Hill Co-op location on the southwest corner of 12th Avenue and East Denny Way, with 1,665 square feet of retail space. The Co-op expanded "in place" through a major remodel in 1989 - and again in 1998, when we took a leap of faith, moved to a new facility, and adopted the new trade name, Madison Market. Our ownership has grown significantly in our new location. We are working hard to tailor our presence in the marketplace to adapt to the needs of our growing owner base.
